The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Jay Presson Allen
"Set in Edinburgh in the 1930’s, this classic play tells the story of Jean Brodie, a teacher in her “prime” at the Marcia Blaine Academy.
Jean incurs the disapproval of her colleagues by her unconventional teaching methods, her favouritism among the pupils and also by her admiration of Mussolini and Italy.
Scandals increase, chiefly involving the art teacher and the music teacher. At first, Jean is triumphant and weathers the storm but her triumph is short lived.
The play was adapted from a novel and turned into a highly successful film in the 1960’s starring Maggie Smith
